About the Inn

The Camden Maine Stay Inn is a historic bed and breakfast inn in Camden, Maine. We are widely and appreciably known for our elegant, romantic setting and relaxed, friendly atmosphere. We are open year-round for the enjoyment of our guests.

The Inn is located in the Historic District of Camden, often referred to as the Jewel of the Maine Coast and one of the most beautiful seaside villages in America. The Inn, built in 1802, is the second oldest home in Camden and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been meticulously maintained and captures the essence of Maine, its history and its traditions.

Each beautiful, romantic guest room in the Inn has its own distinctive character. Many rooms have original wide-plank wood floors and gas-log fireplaces and stoves. In addition, our guests are welcome and encouraged to socialize in our living room and sun porch, play or listen to our antique Steinway grand piano in the piano room, and relax in front of the fireplace and watch their favorite show on the TV in our den.

We serve our guests a full gourmet breakfast each morning. We place a significant emphasis on using locally and regionally sourced fruit, eggs, meat, herbs and other fresh foods as part of our breakfast. Indeed, we maintain our own herb garden at the Inn which provides the freshest of basil, oregano, thyme, chives and other flavor enhancers during the growing season. In addition, we have delicious homemade cookies as well as coffee and tea available for our guests in the kitchen every afternoon and evening. Our Maine Stay Mocha Truffle cookies are a perennial favorite of our guests.

One of the defining elements of the Inn is our beautiful, spacious garden, which is more like a miniature park due to its size and variety. We have well over an acre of lawn and gardens in which our guests can relax. There are walking paths, comfortable sitting areas, and even a year-round stream flowing from nearby Mt. Battie to the harbor. Our guests often enjoy the peace, serenity and beauty of our garden with a cup of coffee or tea before or after breakfast or with a glass of wine during the late afternoon and evening prior to dinner.

The Inn is blessed with an incredibly favorable location in the Historic District of Camden. It is set among several lovely, quintessentially New England residences which date back to the earliest years of Camden’s existence. From the Inn it is only a short distance — a stroll of roughly four minutes — to Camden’s gorgeous harbor and quaint downtown. From there one can easily walk to Camden’s many fine shops and excellent restaurants.

Whether you want to see the many sights of Maine’s Midcoast or just kick back and relax, the Camden Maine Stay Inn is the ideal place for you to stay. We encourage you to make our home your home-away-from-home.

“Best Inn in Camden – The exceptional experience we had at the Camden Maine Stay Inn made our trip the best ever! We were so pleased with our beautiful room, the delicious breakfasts but most of all with the innkeepers, Janis and Peter. Not only were they attentive and well informed about the area, but they were two of the most professional and genuinely caring people we’ve met. Would not stay anywhere else!”

“Owners [are] very friendly and willing to share excellent dining recommendations. Love those chocolate cookies.”

“Great B&B — Janis and Peter, the hosts, made us feel right at home. Relaxing atmosphere, solid accommodations.”

“We Love the Camden Maine Stay Inn — We have stayed at the Camden Maine Stay Inn four or five times over the past eight years and loved it. The Kessers are new owners and are very warm and welcoming. We totally loved our stay this summer. We only wish we could have stayed longer!”

“Quiet Relaxation — The innkeeper and the staff were friendly and efficient. There is a warm, welcoming feeling that exists throughout the Inn. The homemade cookies in the afternoon are a nice touch.”

“My husband and I chose to spend an evening at the Camden Maine Stay Inn based on the excellent reviews we’d read, as well as our previous visits to other bed and breakfasts. We typically spend the night near the coast before continuing north to out annual cottage rental near Bar Harbor. Peter and his daughters were excellent hosts and our room was very comfortable. We also enjoyed the delicious breakfast served in the room that overlooks their beautiful garden area. We definitely plan to return!”

“Our stay at Maine Stay Inn could not have been any better. From the time we got there until the time we left, our hosts, Janis and Peter, were very helpful and welcoming. We asked for suggestions on dining and sightseeing, and were given some of the best places to eat that we have ever been to. As for the Inn itself, it’s only a couple of blocks walk to the heart of Camden. The Inn is beautiful, and the gardens are amazingly gorgeous. Our room was beautiful and spacious, with a balcony overlooking the gardens. The breakfasts were very good, and often left us not needing to eat lunch! If I find myself back in Camden, I would stay here again in a heartbeat, and will suggest it to anyone that I know that is heading to Maine.”

“Outstanding B&B! – We loved meeting Peter – he’s a wonderful host!! The food was outstanding, & our entire stay exceeded our expectations.”

“A Restful Garden Spot – What a lovely, friendly inn! Peter, the innkeeper, and his family were warm and welcoming. My stay in the Garden [Carriage House] Room was outstanding. I will certainly stay again when I visit family in Camden.”

“Very Nice Place to Stay – We had a very nice stay at the Camden Maine Stay Inn. The room was large and very nice and the hosts were charming.”

“Wonderful – We stayed 3 days at the Camden Maine Stay Inn. It was wonderful. Janis and Peter did a great job to make us feel like home. We asked Peter to help us organizing some tee times and dinner reservations and he did a wonderful job. We had a great stay in Camden and coming back to the Inn in the evening was like going home.”

“A Charming Inn You Simply Must Visit! – Our stay in Camden was the highlight of our New England driving vacation, and the Camden Maine Stay Inn had a great deal to do with that. We stayed for four nights. The rooms were beautifully decorated. The garden surrounding the inn was gorgeous. The innkeepers — Peter and Janis — were incredibly attentive. (Peter gave us some excellent restaurant recommendations.) And the breakfasts at the inn were out of this world.”

“Our 4th Trip to Our ‘Happy Place’ – We just returned from our fourth visit to the Camden Maine Stay Inn and have enjoyed each trip more and more. We can always count on fantastic accommodations, wonderful hospitality and great food. The innkeepers, Peter and Janis, are exceptionally welcoming and always willing to accommodate all of their guests. It truly is our “happy place”…..we will definitely return for our fifth visit soon!!!”

“The Camden Maine Stay Inn is an Experience in Relaxation, Pampering and Quintessential New England Charm — The Camden Maine Stay Inn is what you envision when you are thinking about New England charm and style. The Inn is adorned in New England motif with each room offering spectacular views of either the garden or front street facade. Camden is a quaint New England town that offers activities from water sports to sightseeing and is within a few hours to Bar Harbor and other Maine attractions.”

“Perfect Stay in Camden – Everything was perfect! Peter and Janis run the Inn with passion. The house is beautifully furnished and equipped and the garden a dream. Our room was very spacious and also beautifully furnished with many small details. The center is only a 5-minute walk. We would choose the inn again!”

“Janis and Peter Go Above and Beyond to Give You a Wonderful Experience – The Camden Maine Stay Inn is perfectly situated for day trips to Acadia National Park, lighthouses, and excellent shopping and dining in the towns surrounding Camden. We felt spoiled at the Inn – the breakfasts were amazing! I would highly recommend staying in this beautiful home with an equally beautiful, serene garden. Janis and Peter go above and beyond to give you a wonderful experience.”

“Janis and Peter were wonderful hosts. Breakfast was very good. Conversations with other guests in dining room was very enjoyable.”

“We Had a Very Relaxing and Pleasant Stay – ‘Happy Memories’ – Staff very friendly and helpful. Made us feel welcome, like being at home away from home. Highly recommend for anyone to stay there.”

“A fairy tale. It seemed like living a dream.”

“Peter was a great host. Very helpful with suggestions. And breakfast was amazing!

“Lovely Inn and Lovely Town! Awesome! – Great breakfast, very helpful and attentive owners!! We would return!”

“Traditional Maine at its Best, Great Hospitality and a Fantastic Location – Location was fantastic. A warm and welcoming reception by the owners and the most delicious breakfast I have ever had. “Garden View – Loved our garden terrace and amazing breakfast.”

“Excellent – Excellent accommodations, breakfast and location. Extremely personable innkeepers. Room, bed, and bath were fantastic. Loved our stay and highly recommended for anyone visiting Camden!”

“Top Notch!! – Janis and Peter were amazing hosts. Their residence is amazing, not a detail missed! A beautiful three minute walk to the town of Camden. The breakfast was wonderful. They truly have pride of ownership and have every right to be proud of their Inn. The only downside is the Inn is on a bit of a busy street. But the noise was not too bad. I would definitely stay here again.”

“A Beautiful Old House and Excellent Host – What an amazing house. Built in 1802. Janis was very welcoming and showed us around. Large gardens with ample parking. The room was very pretty with a sink and en suite shower. Location ideal, a short walk into the pretty harbor town of Camden. We ate breakfast the next morning which was delicious. Fresh fruit and orange juice followed by homemade baking. Janis advised us on tourist points of interest such as driving to the top of the mountain for panoramic views of the town and coast. No TV but we had Wi-Fi so not an issue.”

“Excellent – This was a lovely B&B, the home was built in 1802. The hosts Peter and his wife Janis were great. The breakfast was unbelievable! It’s in a great location about 10 minute walk to town.”

“Excellent – The best things about the Camden Maine Stay Inn were the kindness and hospitality of the owners Janis and Peter, the breakfasts and the proximity to Main Street where the shops and restaurants are located. However, I highly recommend one of the guest rooms in the back of the house as the street noise is very noisy in the front of the house. There are many beautiful and quiet rooms in the back with beautiful garden views.”

“Pleasing – Good B&B rooms, great owners and food. Very enjoyable stay. Walk to harbor easy.”

“Excellent – Classic New England Inn, gracious innkeepers. Lovely gardens.”

“Excellent – Awesome innkeepers. Peter and Janis were amazing. Made us feel like family, not guests! Room was spectacular! We will be back for a longer stay! Camden is an awesome town!”

“Excellent – Great location. Very well stocked room with thick towels, essential toiletries, better lighting than in our high priced Newport hotel the preceding days, good shower. Lots to love. Received good restaurant advice and a perfect breakfast.”

“Wonderful Stay in Camden – Great location to be around town. Rooms were very clean, and the A/C was so nice in the hot weather. The gardens were very pleasant for a walk. Very nice service and good breakfast.”

“Excellent – The property is over 200 years old but fully modernized for the best of both worlds. It is located just a block out of downtown so you can easily leave your car and walk downtown, but you are not stuck in the noise and traffic of downtown Camden. There is a lovely garden area to wander and enjoy. The owners are very friendly and supportive.”

“Excellent – The location was great. Quiet enough but walking distance to restaurants. Liked the garden and the historical house. Breakfast was very good. Owners and staff were very informative, cheerful, and helpful.”

“Fantastic Stay – Camden Maine Stay Inn was just beautiful. Peter and his family were extremely warm and welcoming people. The Inn was a short walk into town where there are some lovely restaurants by the water. Camden is a beautiful place and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting a few relaxing days by the water. I would also like to thank Peter for scanning and printing the documents I needed to send back to the UK, it was extremely helpful.”

“Excellent – One of our favorites. Peter and his wife are so accommodating and professional hosts. They really know what they’re doing and go out of their way to make everything so special.”

“Pleasing – Our first experience staying at a bed and breakfast was very pleasant. The warm staff welcome and accommodation was comfortable and relaxing. Home made fresh breakfast each morning was excellent. The garden was another place we enjoyed during our stay. Thank you, Peter, Janis, Sandy, Ella, and the staff.”

“Excellent – We stayed 4 nights, June 2018, it was wonderful. Clean, the owners Peter and Janis were so nice, and the breakfast was wonderful …. will stay there again when we travel to Camden next time. I would rate the Maine Stay a 10!”

“A Unique Place to Stay – An enchanting, romantic hotel which is a jewel in beautiful Camden. The housekeepers and owners are very nice and helpful. An experience not to be missed.”

“Lovely Camden Maine Inn – We arrived and were greeted by the owner. She was amazingly friendly and showed us the house and our room. We rented the Carriage House room. It was private and has its own patio overlooking the gardens. Would rent that room again. Loved the space. Our breakfast was in the porch area which was gorgeous. It was a frittata with fresh fruit and 2 kinds of juices. We were up in Camden to go on a Windjammer cruise and loved our night at the Maine Stay. The owners recommended dinner places. We walked into town as it is only 2 blocks out of the center of Camden. Overall, we loved it. And would like to spend more time in Camden.”

“Excellent – We were warmly greeted at the door by Peter and Janis Kesser, the landlords. They took time to show us all the sitting rooms and bedrooms, as well as the verdant garden, with walking paths, swings and sitting “rock benches.” The next morning, breakfast was beautifully served at individual tables. It included: coffee, an assortment of juices, spinach quiche, fresh fruit, sausages and a delicious muffin. We were given suggestions for dinner (Peter also made us a reservation) and sightseeing. All in all, this was a very warm, friendly, and a pleasant experience for us.”

“Excellent – Innkeeper Peter is the best. We will be glad to go back again.”

“The Maine Stay Inn is definitely the place to stay when visiting the Camden, Maine area. Our charming room with a patio out to the lovely gardens was beautifully decorated with Victorian elegance. “We enjoyed your inn very much!”

“Each year for the past ten years my sister and I have gone on a ‘Sister Trip’. Our trip this year was wonderful due in great part to the time we spent at your lovely B&B in Camden, Maine. Thank you for greeting us so warmly upon our arrival. The Tierney Room was just beautifully appointed and perfect for us. The breakfasts each morning were ‘magazine worthy’ and we enjoyed the different place settings, too! Breakfast was fun in the sunroom, and we enjoyed watching you both interact with the guests. What warm memories we both have! I hope that your first year is everything you hoped for! You two are the perfect ‘hosts’! My sister and I will always remember the happy times at the Camden Maine Stay Inn!”

“Thank you so much for a great few days in Camden! Everything was absolutely perfect, and it was one of the best weeks I’ve had in a long time. Both of you are so personable, and along with Deb, the Maine Stay is in super hands! Many thanks for the book as well, and I’m sure I’ll be back soon and many years to come!”

“Lovely in Every Way! – New owners Peter and Janis have done a spectacular job with the Camden Maine Stay Inn and continue the prior owner’s tradition of providing a very warm and inviting B&B. We stayed 3 nights, including New Year’s Eve. As one would expect (or hope), the rooms and the inn were very clean and comfortable. We loved our gas fireplace and cozy couch. The breakfasts were really delicious and inventive and the coffee was great! They use a lot of local ingredients – hello blueberry juice and slow baked Maine bacon – fantastic! But the highlight for us was their hospitality and friendliness. We so enjoyed talking with Peter and Janis, and we were lucky enough to meet their sweet daughters who were home for break. They also have an adorable dog and two cats that we were allowed to shower affection upon. If you’re looking to be quiet and solitary, you won’t feel any invasion of privacy. But if you enjoy interacting with your hosts, as we do, you won’t find nicer people who go out of their way to make your stay special. We will definitely be back!!”

“Brilliant in Every Regard – We loved the Camden Maine Stay Inn. Our room was supremely comfortable and very well-equipped, the breakfasts were superb and absolutely delicious, afternoon tea, coffee and biscuits very good indeed, and the Innkeepers, Peter and Janis, who only took over a few months back after being customers at the Inn for years, could not have been kinder or more helpful or obliging. Their pets, a magnificent dog called Paddy and two beautiful cats called Einstein and Ella, add character to the place. Peter gave us recommendations for three restaurants, all within walking distance and all were absolutely brilliant. He and Janis also tipped us off about local sight-seeing and how to get the best out of the surrounding areas and their advice was spot on. They always willingly engaged in conversation but never intruded. Innkeeping does not get better than this. Peter and Janis are peerless in our view. If you are anywhere near Camden and looking for accommodations and a superb breakfast and service as well as delightful conversation, look no further!!!”

“We Didn’t Want to Leave! – In a happy accident, we booked the Maine Stay last minute when another inn cancelled our booking. I am so glad we did! My husband and I visited Camden in November, and found the warmest welcome from Janis. The inn itself is historic, beautiful and cozy, and the rooms are absolutely lovely, really comfortable and relaxing. The communal areas downstairs are lovely to chill out in, and the kitchen (fresh cookies to die for included) is a warm heart of the beautiful house. The hospitality couldn’t be faulted. Janis gave us a great tour of the property, telling us the history of the inn and her own story of how she became an innkeeper – so interesting! We were also treated to great dinner recommendations, even checking availability and opening hours for us as well as recommending a scenic walking route to take into town. Breakfast was delicious, and the added bonus of the fantastic banana bread recipe was really the icing on the cake! We both left wishing we were staying longer and I’m still pining for Camden and the wonderful stay we had here. I absolutely cannot wait to return and would really recommend this Inn for a relaxing, cozy, friendly break. Perfect.”

“We Visited at Time of Fall Foliage and For My Wife’s Birthday – We had a great experience with our stay at the Camden Maine Stay Inn. Peter and Janis Kesser are great hosts and very interactive with the guests including ourselves. There was more to do in the Camden ME area than I expected so it was helpful to have some direction where to go. There also are excellent restaurants in town and in the surrounding area. We told the Kessers we were coming for my wife’s birthday, and Janis made a lovely Italian cream cake for her. The breakfasts at the Inn were great, and there were a number of interesting guests from around the US and from other countries. We will definitely be returning for another visit.”

“Perfect Location for Our Babymoon – My husband and I stayed at the Camden Maine Stay Inn for four nights in December and loved every second of it! We stayed in the Common Ground room, which was extremely comfortable and spacious. Breakfast each morning was delicious. Janis made excellent restaurant recommendations as well as recommendations on things to do and see in the area. We are hoping to come back in the future for sure!”

“A Model of Hospitality – The minute you walk through the door of the Camden Maine Stay Inn you know you’ve made a great discovery. The new owners, Janis and Peter, have a gift for making guests feel instantly at home, and there’s a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere at this smart, green-shuttered house in one of the prettiest towns on the Maine coast. The bedrooms are attractively decorated, extremely comfortable and full of thoughtful touches –many of them overlook the lovely garden. Breakfasts are a triumph, delicious and varied, taken either in the airy conservatory dining room or around a long and very sociable communal table. If the weather closes in, there are several cozy sitting rooms where you can curl up with a book or game, and if you head out for sightseeing, you’re welcomed back with tea and cookies. Janis and Peter know the area well and are always happy to share restaurant and sightseeing recommendations, including the excellent Farnsworth Art Museum in nearby Rockland.”

“Very Enjoyable Stay – My wife and I are in our mid-60s and live in Maine. We had the opportunity to spend a November night in Camden on a return trip from Mt. Desert Island. We always enjoy the Camden area. We also enjoy staying at B&Bs. We chose the Maine Stay Inn. It turned out to be an excellent choice for us. The rates are quite reasonable, the room was well laid out, nicely decorated and quiet. The grounds look gorgeous and must be beautiful in the spring and summer. The morning breakfast was delicious and filling. We enjoyed the convenient location so that one can walk into Camden, even on a cool November night. We enjoyed meeting one of the new owners (Janis). One can quickly see the pride and excitement she has in operating this bed & breakfast. The Maine Stay Inn would be a great option for any overnight visit to the Camden area.”

“Our Favorite – This was our fourth stay at the inn over about eight years. The innkeepers have changed and continue the peerless tradition of hospitality. The Dogwood Room is popular with namesake trees just outside and appropriate decor. I suggested calling it The Redwood Room. Probably our favorite room being on the main floor near breakfast.
Speaking of breakfast, it is always something to anticipate. Sunny decor and perfect hosts. Beautifully set tables with fresh fruit, pastries, bacon, omelets, etc. Maine maple syrup is still calling my name. Peter and Janis rescued my abandoned credit card and shepherded it safely home. Go on, treat yourself.”

“A New Face on a Classic B&B – We loved our two days with Janis and Peter. They lovingly bought this B&B in February after staying there numerous times. You would think they have been in the B&B business a long time. Peter met us as we pulled up the driveway, excited that we had arrived. He gave us a quick tour and then showed us to our charming room on the 2nd floor above the kitchen. It was quiet and comfortable with plenty of outlets for our electronics. There are nice reading lamps above the bed, perfect for ending the day with a good book. We are from Houston, and Peter and Janis just relocated from Memphis. They offer the best in Southern hospitality in this old Maine home. The food is wonderful and generous. Fresh cookies await guests in the kitchen. You will feel like you are staying with old friends, should you choose this Inn. We hope you do.”

“Lovely Place, Lovely People! – We stayed here for one night on our way from Boston to Acadia National Park and it was the perfect midway stop. We checked in a little late, I think 7:00/8:00ish and Peter was so welcoming and gave us a tour of the place and a little history. We missed dinner, and he offered to get us something, but we brought food with us from our stop at Whole Foods. Peter provided us with plates, water etc. Very nice! We met Janis in the morning as she served us a very delicious breakfast. Our bedroom was nice and comfy, bathroom was spacious. Peter and Janis were so sweet, welcoming and easy to talk to. We would definitely stay again.”

“Vacation in Camden – Janis and Peter were the ultimate hosts in Camden. We loved their beautiful home, breakfasts were exceptional and we had wonderful conversations with Janis, Peter, Paddy and their other guests. We were able to walk to town for dinners, cruises and shopping. Great meeting areas inside and outside in the garden. We hope to be back!!!”

“This is a Very Special Place!!! – We stayed here for two nights as part of a three and a half week driving tour around New England, and this place was simply amazing. Peter and Janis cannot do enough for you and sitting talking to Peter in the afternoon was like a calming balm to the soul, we loved every minute and we were very sad to leave. The rooms were fabulous and spotlessly clean and the breakfasts were superb. We have got to come back here for longer next time – fab, fab, fab xxxx”

“A Definite Return! – The charm of this beautiful Inn was equaled by the graciousness of the owners, Janis, Peter and Paddy, their beautiful Irish Setter dog. Pleasantly surprised to find twin accommodations for this girl’s trip. The room was beautifully appointed and comfortable. The breakfast was atypical of your standard fare. Most enjoyed fresh blueberry juice and delicious homemade cinnamon coffee cake. Looking forward to a return trip!”

“Absolutely Delightful – Found this lovely bed & breakfast treasure on a recent trip along the Maine coast. The village of Camden itself is an unforgettable gem and our hosts of this B&B, Peter and Janis, just added to the wonderful experience. Our room was spotless, the breakfast was delicious and our hosts could not have been more pleasant and accommodating. A place that we would highly recommend and look forward to a return trip.”

“Sisters Fall Getaway – Every fall (October) my sister and I plan a sisters fall getaway. This year, being we have never visited Maine, we chose Camden and the Maine Stay Inn as our accommodations. We were greeted by Janis and immediately welcomed into their beautiful B and B. This Inn is located in the historic district of the gorgeous Camden coast. This inn has beautiful, well-appointed guest rooms decorated in elegant furnishings. Our breakfast was delicious and the hosts, Janis and Peter, are very gracious hosts. We have traveled often to many B and B’s, and this one by far is the BEST! Treat yourself to this elegant, comfortable Inn.”

“BEST STAY in 17 Days on the Road! – My wife and I stayed at the Camden Maine Stay Inn just one night as we were on a pre-arranged schedule but found the Inn by far the best we encountered on our trip. Peter and Janis are delightful and exceptionally accommodating. The Inn is charming. Our room was very comfortable. Breakfast was incredible as others have pointed out. Seriously, if you’re looking for the best of the Inn experience, book the Camden Maine Stay Inn!”

“Great Camden B&B! – Spent three nights in this fabulous B&B. Stayed in the top floor Amelia Huse Suite. Very roomy with cozy separate sitting room and spare twin bedroom. Hosts Peter and Janis treated us very well with delicious breakfasts each morning and an abundance of homemade cookies every afternoon. Walking distance to town and centrally located to nearby attractions.”

“Southern Hospitality in Camden, Maine – My wife and I just wrapped up a B&B tour of Maine. Our stay with Peter and Janis stands out above the rest. As others have noted, the historic house and rooms are incredible. But what sets this place apart is the thoughtfulness and hospitality of the hosts. We really enjoyed getting to know Peter and Janis, and as they got to know us and our plans they made great suggestions. They loaned us hiking poles for our hike up Mt. Battie and offered us some grapes when we came in with wine and cheese one evening. Peter’s enthusiasm for Camden is contagious. We agree that Camden is a very special place. Peter pointed us to a nice walk in the neighborhood with a bench to enjoy a private harbor view. What made our stay with them so special is how available they were to the guests and the great conversations we had with them about raising kids and so many other topics. Peter and Janis are a great complement to a remarkable inn. As others have mentioned, the rooms and location excellent as well.”

“2 Night Stay – We spent two nights in Camden at this quaint wonderful bed and breakfast. Peter and Janis, the innkeepers, were so warm and welcoming and helpful and made us feel so comfortable. The room was very comfortable, clean and charming, and the breakfasts were delicious. Would highly recommend staying here.”

“Amazing in All Senses! – We stayed at the Camden Maine Stay Inn for 3 nights very recently (Sept 2018) and it was fantastic. First of all, we were welcomed with openness and kindness by Janis, and secondly she was so helpful and service-minded during our stay. We got a wonderful breakfast, had a fantastic and beautiful room (almost an apartment in Common Ground Suite with balcony) – it was in every way FANTASTIC. We can only recommend this property.”

“Wonderful Stay – We only stayed in Camden for 1 night last weekend. Would have liked to stay longer. Peter and Janis are wonderful innkeepers. They made us feel right at home. The inn is beautiful and the grounds are gorgeous! Easy walk into town. Breakfast in the sun room overlooking the gardens was tranquil and the Southwest frittata was delicious. We stayed in Topper, which was cozy and very comfortable. Nice large bathroom. Very clean. We will definitely stay here next time we visit Camden.”

“Perfect in Every Way – We loved visiting Camden, and our stay was made very special because of our stay at the Camden Maine Stay Inn. This is a beautiful home with a very warm and inviting ambience which pairs beautifully with the hosts Peter and Janis. They are very courteous and attentive hosts and they encouraged guests to enjoy time together over breakfast which was lovely as we’d been travelling for five weeks and we were missing home. The breakfast was delicious. The sitting rooms and the dining room have lovely furniture and are very comfortable and the breakfast room looks out onto the garden, all delightful. We stayed in the suite on the top floor which was exactly what we needed after staying in some of the bigger hotels as we’ve travelled. It felt like home and gave me energy to go on to the next extended leg of our trip. We’ll always warmly remember our stay in Maine, a very nice place to spend time.”

“Two-Night Stay – Nice personal touch at this Inn with Peter and Janis very much into making your stay comfortable. We had a great dinner in town with Peter’s help one night. Downtown is an easy walk. We took the ferry in Rockland to Vinalhaven Island to ride our bikes which was a nice way to spend a day. Finished at a great cheese shop in the village. The bed in our room was very comfortable and the breakfast was excellent. Try the blueberry juice. Peter and Janis have the qualities needed to be successful innkeepers. We will probably return to take advantage of their knowledge drawn from many trips to Monhegan Island as we want to visit it in the future.”

“Great Inn – We loved this little inn for a one night stay in Camden. Peter and his wife Janis were so nice and helpful. The breakfast was phenomenal, stuffed peach French toast! You can walk to town in 10 minutes. We drove up the mountain to the Overlook which looked down upon the harbor.”

“Childhood Friends on a Coastal Maine Vacation – Enjoyed this beautiful property and the owners warm hospitality. Janis and Peter make you feel like you are at home. Lovely, comfortable rooms and a hearty breakfast not to mention homemade cookies by their daughter. The house was full of antiques and furnished so beautifully. It was a joy to experience this grand old house and the innkeepers.”

“Could Not Have Been More Pleased! – Not having been in Camden previously I read many B&B reviews before deciding where to stay. I could not have been more pleased in choosing the Maine Stay Inn. It is first a beautiful inn and property – extremely well maintained with attention to detail. The gardens alone are worth visiting. I stayed one night in the Common Ground room, three nights in the Carriage House Room – each uniquely different and each with reasons to make it especially enjoyable. Breakfast in the sunroom each day was exceptional – creative, fresh and substantial. But most important, the owners, Janis and Peter, are such wonderful hosts, assuring each guest has an enjoyable stay, not only at the inn but in the area. I would go out of my way on my next visit to Maine to stay at the inn, and have already recommended it to another traveler!”

“I Will Definitely Return Again and Again – I can’t say enough about this large B&B in the tree-lined Historic District of Camden, coastal Maine. The proprietress Janis is unbelievably welcoming. These are photos of my room, the Common Ground Suite. Each room or suite is completely unique, and there is even a two-story attached carriage house available. Perfectly appointed in period style with every modern amenity. The several common rooms and dining areas are light-filled, beautiful and comfortable as well. I wish I could show more photos of the B&B as well as the charming coastal town of Camden. I enjoyed wonderful breakfasts (included), homemade cookies, and their Irish setter Paddy was a delight. (Three cats were tucked away somewhere where their highnesses would not be disturbed). Walking distance to town. I will definitely be back, aiming for every season. I was here solo to join up with a Photography Workshop but plan to return with my husband, with friends, or solo, whenever I can!”

“We Were So Lucky to Find this Place! – We had a sudden change of plans and needed to find a place to stay in Camden and were so happy that we were able to stay here. Janis is a warm and inviting hostess and greeted us with a short, informative history of the inn. We met her adorable daughter and felt very comfortable chatting with them both. The gardens are beautifully tended to, the rooms are decorated in an historic way and wow! that breakfast. Fresh fluffy apple pancakes and delicious bacon, with blueberry juice and warmed maple syrup. Wonderful in every way.”

“Wonderful Place, Terrific Stay! – Camden Maine Stay Inn is a lovely B&B, located an easy walk to downtown Camden. It was spotless and everything about the Inn was to our liking. This place has a long history with a great reputation, and Janis and Peter, the new innkeepers, haven’t missed a step in taking over. You would never know that this is their first time as innkeepers. Everything was great, breakfasts were stellar, and we couldn’t have asked for more pleasant and accommodating hosts. They saw to every need, and went out of their way to make sure our stay was pleasurable. If you’re going to stay in Camden, this is the place to stay.”

“A Step Back in Time – Have you ever longed for an experience in a time long passed that held all the beauty, craftsmanship and elegance yet would accommodate modern conveniences? Camden Maine Stay Inn has it all. This impeccably kept 200 year old inn is a masterpiece of those dreams. Don’t worry about your Wi-Fi, AC or comfortable bathroom facilities as you enjoy the structure, furnishings and landscape of this wonderful home. Set in a lovely neighborhood very close to quaint Camden village, you can walk to any number of fabulous gourmet restaurants, cafes, bookstores or gift shops. Innkeeper/Owners, Peter and Janis, strive to make sure that this Inn continues to maintain very high standards. A full breakfast is served with care and is sure to delight with different, daily offerings. The four-season room is particularly lovely with its wicker furnishings and table settings. Both Peter and Janis are very knowledgeable of the Maine area and are more than happy to assist in your planning if needed.
Our suite, Common Ground, featured a cathedral ceiling and balcony with a view of the grounds. We particularly enjoyed the “Agricultural Fair Ground” theme of this room with its cheerful furnishings. No need to use the Vermont Castings stove this stay … but maybe during a another visit? Thank you for the wonderful experience!”

“Warm Welcome with Best Breakfast!! – Our stay here was a real treat! The innkeepers were so welcoming and we really enjoyed the delicious breakfasts. One morning we had Maine blueberry pancakes, which were as light as a feather. Another favorite of mine were the Inn’s signature chocolate drop cookies. We cannot wait to return!!!”

“So Hospitable! – Our three night stay at this lovely inn was wonderful. Thank you for making us feel so welcome. The great suggestions of what to do around town and amazing restaurant recommendations were much appreciated. We will definitely be back!”

“Delightful Stay – We stopped here for the night on our way farther north and wished we were staying longer. The room was cozy but well-appointed and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic! It was also nice to meet the lovely family that calls the Maine Stay Inn home who gave great recommendations about dining and things to do around the area. We would definitely return!”

“Charming! – My husband and I stayed at this property recently and enjoyed it immensely. It was charming and absolutely perfect. The Inn is decorated with that quaint New England decor and absolutely immaculate. The hosts are gracious, polite and welcoming. Our room was spacious and lovely with a private bathroom that was modern. The breakfast each morning was the best meal I’ve ever eaten – it really was just that good (not to be missed). If you are looking for a B&B in Maine, you will enjoy this property as well as the incredible town of Camden – shopping, restaurants, views, sailing in the harbor, hiking and much more. I’m so glad my aunt recommended this town to us. What a pleasant surprise. I hope we have the pleasure to return again and to spend time with the polite and kind people of Maine.”

“Stay In at the Stay Inn – The property is over 200 years old but fully modernized for the best of both worlds. It is located just a block out of downtown so you can easily leave your car and walk downtown, but you are not stuck in the noise and traffic of downtown Camden. There is a lovely garden area to wander and enjoy. The owners are very friendly and supportive.”

“Wonderful B&B – This is a beautiful B&B, with gardens, wonderful rooms and food. What makes it outstanding are the owners and hosts, Peter and Janis and their daughters. They all made our stay special, and we really enjoyed our time with them. We look forward to our next visit!”

“A Dream Inn – We loved this Inn. But mostly we loved the gracious way we were treated. We were met by our hosts, Peter and Janis, at the door and got the full tour. We came as guests and left feeling we had made new friends including their wonderful daughter and dog. The charm of the Inn is captured in the photos. The warmth of the owners cannot be captured. We will definitely come back if we have the opportunity. The breakfasts were great and had a Maine flavor. We loved them. You will love this experience.”

“A Wonderful Stay at a Fantastic Inn! – We have recently enjoyed a memorable and very happy stay at this lovely Inn. We found the innkeepers, Peter & Janis and their family, to be very hospitable and very helpful with suggestions for what to do and the restaurants to go to for a great dinner, as well as helping with a medical problem. The inn itself is extremely comfortable and clean, with beautiful rooms and bathrooms and a gorgeous garden to enjoy with a cup of tea or drink. There’s a choice of several reception rooms – all beautifully decorated and with comfortable couches and cushions to spend a few hours. Our breakfasts, cooked by Janis and served by daughters, were delicious and generous, setting us up for a day of sightseeing. Highly recommended! We hope to go back sometime!”

“Charming Inn – The innkeepers, Peter and Janis, are friendly and warm. We took many of their suggestions for restaurants, places to visit, etc. and were happy we did. The Inn is in a great location, walkable to town. The Inn is charming and historic with comfortable rooms and beautiful grounds. The breakfasts were soooo good, local fruit and fresh ingredients, don’t miss afternoon tea/coffee with treats. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend!”

“Wonderful Inn, Great Stay – We stayed in the Dogwood room which is lovely, a good size and relaxing. Janis and Peter are wonderful hosts, thoughtful, considerate and very helpful. The inn is historic and charming with good spaces. It’s well located and has a lovely garden. I’d stay there again in a heartbeat. Enjoy!”

“Comfortable Stay in Camden – The Camden Maine Stay Inn is a perfect example of an old New England mansion converted to a luxurious Inn. Innkeepers are very attentive and helpful without being intrusive. Room we had was spacious and comfortable. All the top inns in season are pricey so you want to choose one that will meet your needs. We were very pleased with the Camden Maine Stay Inn.”

“Best in Camden – Great Inn – wonderful food, quiet setting and innkeepers who go out of their way to make you feel at home. There are no requests they will not try to meet – I even needed a ruler for a stitching project and had it within a minute – literally! You don’t want to miss this place – it’s definitely a ‘home away from home’ with the bonus of very special innkeepers dedicated to ensuring you love your stay. We’ll be back!”

“A Very Special Stay on the Maine Coast – Of all the B&Bs we stayed in on our 10 day vacation on the Maine coast, this was by far the nicest and most special. The hospitality of new innkeepers, Peter and Janis, was first rate! As previous guests, they appreciate the small things and attention to details which made our 3-night visit so special. We can’t say enough about Peter’s help in directions around the town and honest recommendations for dinner options. And what can we say about breakfast in the sun room? It was very delicious and we really appreciated both Peter’s and Janis’ efforts to accommodate Terry’s gluten-free and dairy-free diet. (Most of all, Terry was appreciative of Peter’s extra attention to cooking her “crisp” bacon.) We hated to have to head home because Peter and Janis made us feel right at home there. We are already thinking about when we might be able to come back to the Maine coast and, if we do, there is no other place we will stay but the Maine Stay Inn. Thanks for the special memories.”

“Making Memories – The Inn is a grand home where you feel at home from the moment you arrive. Breakfast was a culinary delight and served in a sunny space where you could enjoy the gardens. The hospitality was gracious. The Innkeepers guided us to off-the-beaten path culinary finds and vistas of the Maine shore. I found myself not wanting to leave. Memories were made here.”

“Extended Weekend – Welcoming, friendly, clean and accommodating. New owners Peter and Janis are very special people and delightful. They are familiar with the area and helpful with suggestions. They are available to their guests and look forward to greeting guests when they check-in, at breakfast and throughout the day without being intrusive. Delicious breakfast and beautiful grounds. Looking for a relaxing location, this is the place to stay and visit.”

“A Unique Place to Stay – A charming, romantic hotel which is a jewel in beautiful Camden, Maine. Every single detail to make your stay most comfortable has been taken care of. The owners are ever so nice and helpful. A dream spot for the perfect vacation. I wish we could have stayed longer.”

“Home Away from Home – Love the Camden Maine Stay Inn. We stay there every time we visit Maine, which has been almost every year starting in 2011. The accommodations and hosts are impeccable. Always greeted warmly. Just a short walk to downtown Camden. Do yourself the pleasure of a stay. You will not be disappointed. (Did I mention the breakfasts?)”

“Delightful Stay in Camden – My husband and I enjoyed our 2 night stay last week at the Camden Maine Stay Inn. Peter and Janis were delightful – truly welcoming, open and caring. And it was so nice to meet another Janis/Janice! We enjoyed our room as well as the common areas. Breakfasts were a treat. Deb is a great cook! The inn’s location is a pretty easy walk into town. This is our second visit to the inn and we hope to stay again!”

“Vacation – We met the new owner, Peter. His wife, Janis, did not relocate when we were there. Everything was the same as we had remembered it on our last visit. We wish them lots of luck in their new adventure. They were very accommodating with the breakfast since there were a few foods my husband could not eat.”

“Highly Recommend – My husband and I spent the last weekend at the Camden Maine Stay Inn and had a wonderful experience. The innkeepers, Janis and Peter, could not have been more welcoming, and our room was very comfortable and clean. The location is ideal: a quiet street within easy walking distance of downtown Camden. We will definitely stay here again!”

“Felt Right at Home – We traveled to Camden to visit relatives and planned to stay a night or two. Circumstances turned our short stay into 3 nights, then 7 nights, then 10! Camden is beautiful!! Peter was so accommodating with our family group and putting us into the best rooms for our stay. We loved having coffee in one of the front rooms, having a family conference in another, then enjoying a program one night in the TV room. I’d have to recommend the 3rd floor suite for 3 persons. It was roomy and very private. We looked forward to a delicious breakfast prepared by Deb and served by Peter in the sunny morning room. The blueberry pancakes were amazing! We will definitely return!”

“Lovely Bed and Breakfast – We just returned from the Camden Maine Stay Inn a couple of days ago. Peter, the innkeeper, was wonderful and very helpful. Deb, the breakfast chef, does an awesome job with her delicious breakfasts. The Inn is simply lovely and is in the perfect location as it is close enough to town to walk. Camden and its harbor area are breathtakingly beautiful. We visited many little towns along that coast and have to say that Camden is my favorite. Peter also provided us with a list of the 5 nearest lighthouses which was a tremendous help. Those 5 days in the Camden area were very relaxing (although we did do a lot and see a lot). I would highly recommend the Camden Maine Stay Inn and the Camden area.”

“Favorite Inn, Favorite Town – The Camden Maine Stay Inn offers walking distance to town, restaurants, shops, the waterfront and more. Surprisingly quiet for an inn right on Rte. 1. It seems the traffic coming from the south somehow disperses as it comes into town and never quite reaches the inn. Breakfast is served in the lovely, bright and spacious dining area off the kitchen, overlooking a sprawling garden scene of plants, shrubs, flowers and paths. Rooms vary in size and décor – each one is unique. Our room had the obligatory television, but we rarely turned it on. Ceiling fan was effective and quiet, bathroom spacious and a nice blend of old and new. Off-street parking was good to have and there is even a charging station for those modern folk with electric cars. This is our second visit to Maine Stay Inn. Last year we greatly enjoyed meeting owners Roberta and Claudio. Over the winter they sold the inn so they could retire to Florida. New owners Peter and Janis have carried on the innkeeper role without missing a beat. Peter is a most gracious and charming host and was very helpful in directing us towards places and things we had not seen the year before. While Peter did not hint at any radical changes, he does have a new schedule in mind. Maine Stay Inn has usually been closed during the winter, but now Peter and Janis plan to keep the inn open year round. What a great spot to linger on a cool fall evening or a cold winter’s night. Can’t wait ’til next time.”

“Beautiful Bed and Breakfast – Wonderful experience. Peter was a gracious host and was very helpful in helping us choose restaurants and places to visit. Home was very clean and bedroom was comfortable and large. Amazing breakfasts every morning! Would definitely recommend this to anyone in the area.”

“Great Place to Stay in Camden, Maine – Camden is a beautiful, quaint little town to relax and unwind in. This was our first visit to the Maine Stay Inn there and it was just wonderful! Peter, one of the new owners, was the perfect host, even rooting for our Cavaliers! The room was spacious and comfortable and the breakfast prepared by Deb was delicious. We would highly recommend staying there. The location was great, as it was just a short walk into town.”

“Maine Stay Inn Nice Inside and Out – Three nights at the Camden Maine Stay Inn. I wished we could have stayed longer. Peter was very nice and accommodating. We will be glad to stay here again. We also enjoyed the five-star breakfast. The location is within walking distance of the harbor and all the downtown has to offer.”

“Beautiful B&B in Camden, Maine – This was our first visit to Camden and we truly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful historic Inn, Camden Maine Stay Inn! Great location, close to the harbor and downtown area. Innkeeper Peter was super accommodating and provided great information regarding local sites and restaurants. Enjoying a delicious breakfast each morning in the sun-lit porch overlooking the garden was a perfect way to start the day! Can’t say enough about the character and charm of the Inn, like a step back in time!”

“Gorgeous House, Idyllic Location, Accommodating Hosts – Stayed here for one night while passing through lovely Camden, and wish we had had more time. Peter warmly greeted us (with coffee and cookies!) and showed us the inn, and we chatted about the history of the home and the area. We stayed in the Common Ground room – so charming! The photos don’t do it justice. It has a balcony that overlooks the garden, and the gas stove in the room added an extra level of coziness. The bed was super comfortable as well. Peter gave us a great dinner recommendation (Nina June in Rockport … do yourself a favor and eat there ASAP). The inn is in the perfect location for taking a stroll into town for a drink or walk along the harbor. Totally quintessential Maine. Breakfast in the morning was delicious – blueberry pancakes and bacon. Again, I wish we had another night here, so I could have another lovely meal in that breakfast room. Peter added another impressive level of service after our stay ended. I realized upon returning home that I had left something behind in the room. The staff found my item and Peter shipped it to me the next day! So kind. What a gem of a B&B. It doesn’t get much better than this. We’d definitely stay here again. Don’t pass this place up!”

“Weekend in Camden – Wow! We spent a weekend visiting our son in Camden and stayed at the Inn. Excellent location to walk to all the restaurants. The inn was immaculate, so clean and nicely decorated. Breakfast was yummy! The new innkeeper Peter was very nice and accommodating. We will certainly plan on staying for our next trip.”

Yelp

“I highly recommend the Camden Maine Stay Inn – it’s charming and comfortable, and conveniently located a short walk from town. This was our second time staying at the Camden Maine Stay Inn, our first with new owners Janis and Peter Kesser. They are very friendly and recommended a great restaurant for dinner. We had a delicious, very abundant breakfast (frittata, fruit, bacon, blueberry coffee cake, two kinds of juice, coffee – what else could you possibly want?) served in the charming glass enclosed breakfast room overlooking a beautiful garden with flowering dogwood trees and white wicker chairs and tables. For a family of 3, we stayed in rooms consisting of 2 bedrooms and a sitting room with a private bath. Each room had a comfortable old-fashioned iron framed bed and an easy chair at the top of this pretty Inn. I would definitely stay there again!”
