About Historic Camden Maine Stay Inn (1802)

An enchanting trip back in time

The High Street Historic District of Camden is composed of sixty-six lovely homes all listed on the National Register of Historical Places. Camden Maine Stay Inn is the second oldest of them.

In 1802, Thomas Jefferson was President of the United States, and Maine was only part of the state of Massachusetts. Route 1 was just a dirt road when Alden Bass decided to build a house in Camden at 22 High Street. The home consists of an outstanding main house, a four-story barn and an attached carriage house. It is an exceptional example of the progressive farm buildings very common in those times in Maine.

Our three parlors, one with wood-burning fireplace, are tastefully decorated with period furnishings and beautiful paintings. Highly crafted ornate iron castings form the mantel and surround the hearth in the North Parlor.

Each of the guest rooms has individual style and character. Many of them have original wide plank pine flooring. All are very romantic. Wi-Fi is available all over the inn.

The huge one-acre garden is an ideal place to rest enjoying the brook that crosses it and the granite bridge on top of it. There are sitting areas around, tree-lined winding paths and a swing.

When you visit Camden Maine Stay Inn, you feel like you’re having a delightful trip back in time. Come savor the past and enjoy the charm and the elegance of this historic New England inn.
